Description

The intent of the International Water Research Alliance Saxony (IWAS) project, which is funded by the BMBF, is to develop a practical solution to an Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) in hydrological sensitive regions of the world. The IWAS-Água DF project is part of the regional project Latin America with focus on the capital of Brazil and its Federal District (DF).
As a new raw water source for drinking water treatment, the Lago do Paranoá reservoir is under discussion. Currently, the lake is used in many ways; for energy production, fisheries and recreational activities. In addition, it serves as the receiving water body for effluents of two sewage treatment plants. The investigation of working group 5 “water quality” deals with the characterization of micropollutants in order to specify the water quality of the lake, to determine possible risks in advance, particularly, regarding to their elimination.
