Description

Interactions among microorganisms, nanoparticles and natural organic matter in the aquatic environment.
(STUB / KIT)

Nanoparticles (NP) are of major economical interest caused by their functional interfaces and their great surface to volume ratio. Based on the arising production of NP an exposure of these NP into the water cycle at the end of the life cycle has to be expected. Various lab results have shown adverse effects of NP against aquatic microorganisms (MO). Therefore negative effects towards MO in complex systems including the impact of natural organic matter (NOM) can not be excluded. In this project the interaction and toxicity of engineered NP with MO in the aquatic environment will be investigated.
