Description
The application of membrane technologies in water treatment processes has been gaining importance during the last decades. In this context, surface modification of membranes with silver is a promising approach to reduce fouling and biofouling. This will contribute to maintain the membrane performance and, at the same time, decrease the chemical demand.
In this project different membrane materials are modified with silver species (e. g. silver nanoparticles) applying different modification techniques. The influence of surface modification on the membrane properties is investigated using advanced analytical instruments such as Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and considering the stability of the modification layer under typical operating conditions. The results will contribute to enhance the operating time and the energy efficiency of membrane facilities.
