Description

Water Quality Targets for the Protection of Aquatic Biota in Surface Waters
(LAWA)

Due to the EC water framework directive 2000/60/EG, quality standards for priority substances have to be defined to control the "good condition" of surface waters. In this project, quality criterions for selected hazardous substances will be developed. The results are required to define quality standards. For this purpose, ecotoxicological effect data and physical-chemical properties have to be researched from data bases. Selected and validated results will be listed in special data sheets. The derivation of quality standards is mainly based on data determined by long time toxicological tests of the organism groups of algae crustaceans and fish. The results are of fundamental importance for the conclusions of the German State Association on Water (LAWA).
