In the DFG sponsored graduate college "Ökologische Wasserwirtschaft" a Ph. D. student was working at the institute of water chemistry. The subject of his work is the interaction of metal ions with natural organic matter (NOM). For the research objectives novel analytical methods are employed, i.e. size exclusion chromatography (SEC) with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) detection or fluorescence measurements. The results from these analytical measurements are used to get a better understanding of transport phenomena of metal ions. Especially the influence of NOM on the transport of metal ions is examined.
