Project Description

The overall goal of this project is to implement biotechnological processes for the conversion of biogenic residual and waste streams into platform chemicals. By means of acidic hydrolysis, microbial electrolysis and cell and membrane filtration, propionate and hydrogen will be produce.

Main tasks of the Division of Water Chemistry and Water Technology at the DVGW-Research Center include: the construction and optimization of the hydrolysis reactor, the characterization of the biofilm in the microbial electrolysis cell using OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and the application of different membrane processes for propionate concentration and purification.
